When someone slanders a buiness or a person, that person or buiness can go to court and sue them. Admitting guilt of harm to another property or a person by a legal standard can be in two forms: libel (written statements) or slander (spoken statements). However, no criminal offense has been committed. Therefore, state common law and statutory law govern defamation lawsuits.
