Education Depo

The Department of Education, a federal agency integral to the United States education system, was established on May 4, 1980. This pivotal event was part of a broader restructuring initiative that delineated the Department of Education, the Department of Health and Welfare, and the Department of Health and Human Services as separate and distinct entities, previously consolidated under four individual agencies. The catalyst for this reorganization was the enactment of the Department of Education Organization Act, which was signed into law by President Jimmy Carter on October 17, 1979.
