Secret Service

In the end days of the Civil War, it was estimated that almost half of the circulating U.S. currency was counterfeit. The Department of Treasury knew of this threat and created the Secret Service in 1865. With the creation a new specialized branch curbed the number of fraudulent banknotes in circulation
